| August Ferdinand Möbius (1790-1868), mathematician and astronomer, contemporary of Goethe’s, presented the möbius band. Its principle: ¹a one-sided surface formed by holding one end of a rectangle fixed, rotating the opposite end through 180 degrees, and then applying it to the first end . The band has no top or bottom! Cut it longitudinally and it will stay in one piece. A symbol of inseparability.
Once, a limerick was made on the möbius band: A mathematician once said: ¹ Webster’s Third New International Dictionary. |
